Introduction
The Beginning of Liam's Journey
Liam’s journey began at the age of 4 when he was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). His speech was limited, with only about 30 words, and he had consistent difficulties with walking. This marked the start of what would become a challenging and emotional path for Liam and his family.

The Turning Point
Seizures and Hospitalization A Sudden Decline
As Liam turned 5, his condition began to worsen. His walking ability deteriorated rapidly, leading to frequent and severe falls. In April 2019, one such fall was accompanied by what seemed to be a seizure, signaling the beginning of a new and terrifying chapter. That night, Liam began experiencing continuous seizures, prompting an urgent rush to the Montreal Children's Hospital, where he would spend the next month under intensive care. The seizures persisted daily, baffling the medical team despite numerous tests and treatments.
A Devastating Diagnosis
The Moment Everything Changed
After weeks of uncertainty and grueling tests, the doctors finally identified the cause of Liam’s seizures: a POLG disorder, a rare and severe form of mitochondrial disease. This diagnosis came with a grim prognosis—Liam’s condition was progressive and ultimately fatal. The doctors prepared the family for the worst, suggesting that Liam had only days or weeks left to live. The news was shattering, but Liam’s story was far from over.
Defying the Odds
A Fight for Survival
Against all odds, Liam began to show signs of recovery. Despite losing his ability to speak, Liam fought back, regaining some of his strength and starting to walk again, just weeks after leaving the hospital. His spirit and determination amazed everyone, proving that he was not ready to give up. With the seizures now under control through a cocktail of medications and vitamins, Liam continues to defy expectations.
